Painter David Hopkins is entranced by the light of central Pennsylvania, where he was born and raised. He scours the rural landscape in search of old farms and memorable vistas. While some of his subjects are as familiar to him as childhood chums, others are new discoveries. He sketches and photographs the locale, and later in his studio, he uses oil paints and canvas to recreate the feeling of the daylight.
In Orange Fading to Red, however, Hopkins captured the splendor of autumnal sugar maples in Lycoming County. He was well acquainted with the farmhouse and weathered wagon shed, which are typical of the area.
