Gathered in His Name

Joyce Mansfield draws artistic inspiration from her faith in God and her experiences with friends and family.  Gathered in His Name is a poignant image of the artist and her roommates holding hands and praying together.  

Mansfield’s collage technique involves assembling and pasting materials.  Similar to artist Al Loving, whose artwork is displayed right next to Mansfield’s, Joyce constructs her collages from pieces of brightly colored, painted paper.  But while Loving's piece is formed and glued to resemble a relief sculpture, Manfield's fragments are affixed to a solid ground, creating the effect of a traditional painting.
