Painter David Hopkins is entranced by the light of central Pennsylvania, where he was born and raised.  He scours the rural landscape in search of old farms and memorable vistas.  While some of his subjects are as familiar to him as childhood chums, others are new discoveries.  He sketches and photographs the locale, and later in his studio, he uses oil paints and canvas to recreate the feeling of the daylight.

In Farm Pond, Hopkins painted a Montour County site that he found only by searching.  The reflections of the sky visible in the still surface of the water were of particular interest to him.
