Eric Hall’s painting Expressway is a sort of ‘stop and smell the roses’. The highway bridges tower above you and you know everybody's rushing around up there, speeding in noisy traffic while all the time, down here, the river slides by and you are contentedly cycling in idyllic quiet.
Scenes of Philadelphia frequently appear in Hall’s work, but it is the people who move within it; how they give life to it and are, in turn, affected by it that catch his attention and provide Hall’s unexpected views of modern urban life.
