The three drawings that the Pennsylvania Convention Center purchased – AP #47, AP #66, and AP #107 – are part of a larger series of works grouped together under the title “Applied Landscape.”  They are all pastel on Stonehenge paper.

Cynthia Hron has looked to the land for inspiration for much of her studio work.  Her personal observations of exterior sites, the disappearance of open space, and the alteration of the landscape have influenced her art.  This series of drawings is based on the notion that landscape is not simply how we find it but how it is manipulated to suit our purposes regardless of its entropic inclination.  The drawings convey that natural conditions do not necessarily define the scenery, but that the lay of the land is a result of augmentation to an environment.
