The Pennsylvania Convention Center acquired three (3) photographs from artist Stuart Rome which all utilize patterning as a device to allude to connections between chaos and order.
This series titled “Oculus” are photographs made from within giant redwoods and sequoias. These trees, some up to five thousand years old, though hollow, remain alive and have over their long lives been recurrently struck by lightning, eventually carving out their hard central cores, effecting an aperture – framing the living canopy above and the sky beyond.
These pictures are not description nor documentation, but are intended as a catalyst or portal moving from a recognizable world to something original and unexpected.
